Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage, Hilary Duff, George Clooney, and Demi Moore are just some of the many celebrities who are rumored to have gotten a dental makeover with the help of veneers. The dramatic before and after photos serve as great examples of just how powerful cosmetic dentistry can be.

But cosmetic dentistry isn’t just for celebrities. In fact, more people just like you are opting to get veneers to transform their dull, stained, or crooked teeth into bright, gorgeous smiles.

At First Dental Associates in Reading, MA, we can give you something to smile about.

What Are Veneers?

“Okay, so veneers can give me a perfect smile. But what are they?”

Good question! Dental veneers are thin shells shaped like teeth that cover flaws in your natural teeth. They’re attached to the front of your teeth to give your smile a brand new look.

At First Dental Associates, we offer traditional porcelain veneers as well as e.max veneers. E.max veneers are made of high-quality ceramic that looks just like your natural teeth.

Dental veneers are most commonly used to fix:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Worn down teeth
  • Broken or chipped teeth
  • Misaligned, misshapen, or uneven teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

You can expect your veneers to last over a decade if you take care of them properly and maintain regular checkups with our dentist. They don’t require any special care. Just remember to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily.

Dental Veneers: The Procedure

Ready for the celebrity treatment? Just like those famous celebrities, you can also get a brand new smile in no time.

It all starts when you come in to see us for a consultation. Once you tell us you’re interested in veneers, we will work together to decide what kind of result you’re looking for. We will take a look at your teeth and discuss the procedure with you. If necessary, we will take X-rays and make impressions of your teeth. During that consultation, we will go over the cost of the procedure with you to make sure there are no surprises.

If everything is good to go, we’ll get your teeth ready for the veneers. This involves removing just enough enamel from the surface of each tooth, to accommodate the thickness of the veneer. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure the process is painless for you.

We’ll then take impressions that are used to make your veneers.

When we have the veneers, we will check carefully to make sure they fit properly and match the color we’re looking for. We will trim and adjust each veneer as needed before we bond it to your tooth.

Next, we’ll prepare your tooth once more to make sure it’s ready for the bonding process. Dental cement is applied to the veneer, then we place the veneer on your tooth. We’ll then use a special light to quickly harden the cement.

We’ll remove any excess cement and look over your smile to make sure no adjustments are needed. You’ll then come back to see us a few weeks later to make sure everything is working smoothly and no irritation has occurred.

Advantages Of Dental Veneers

Advantages of getting dental veneers include:

  • Natural-looking appearance
  • Stain-resistant
  • Whiter smile
  • Less extensive procedure than dental crowns
