You’d think that, for the most part, one half of dentistry is about prevention, while the other half is about reparation, right? That certainly would make sense. But it turns out that preventative dentistry is just one of many specific areas a dentist can be experienced in.

Fortunately, your Reading, MA dentist, Dr. Nasrin Sadeghi has the experience necessary to practice preventative dentistry as yet another way to keep our patients happy and healthy.

We encourage you to learn more about preventative dentistry and the services we provide here at our Reading, MA dental office.

What Is Preventative Dentistry?

Preventative dentistry is used to prevent oral health problems and keep your teeth healthy. At First Dental Associates, we use preventative dentistry to help you avoid gum disease, cavities, enamel wear, and more.

At our Reading, MA dentist office, Dr. Sadeghi and our experienced team work hard to:

  • Provide regular dental cleanings to keep your smile healthy for as long as possible.
  • Spot potential problems during dental exams before they cause damage to your teeth.
  • Protect your teeth during physical activity or from teeth grinding with a mouthguard.

You can learn more below about each of the preventative dentistry solutions we offer.

Dental Cleanings & Exams

The first time you come to our office, we’ll introduce you to our staff. You’ll find that they’re very friendly and experienced in their line of work. During your initial visit, we’ll take some digital X-rays of your mouth. The process is quick and easy!

You’ll then meet Dr. Sadeghi when she takes a look at your X-rays and works with you to come up with the best treatment plan for you.

Typically, you’ll then receive a very detailed dental cleaning. At our Reading, MA dentist office, we use:

  • Air abrasion to thoroughly clean your teeth in the least invasive way
  • Visual oral cancer screening with the optional use of a VELscope screening for a complete look at the condition of your smile

You can expect the first visit to take about an hour and a half from start to finish.

Sealants & Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride Varnish Treatment

Fluoride is an essential part of any oral health routine. There’s a good chance you’re already getting fluoride from your toothpaste and tap water, but because fluoride is important when it comes to preventing tooth decay, sometimes a bit of a reinforcement is needed.

At First Dental Associates we will offer a fluoride varnish treatment during which:

  • We’ll cover your teeth with a thin layer of fluoride.
  • The varnish will be left on your teeth for as long as instructed.
  • You’ll remove the varnish with vigorous brushing when instructed.
  • The fluoride will bond with your teeth enamel, giving you stronger and healthier teeth.

We also offer at-home fluoride treatment trays for your convenience.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are yet another way you can protect your teeth from tooth decay. We can paint a thin layer of resin onto the chewing surface of your teeth, most often your molars. The resin acts as a sealant by filling in the natural cracks and fissures where bacteria and food can get trapped and lead to tooth decay.

Custom Mouthguards

Our Reading, MA dental office also offers custom-made mouth guards to protect your teeth. Teeth grinding, known as bruxism, can be detrimental to your oral health if left untreated. It can also lead to jaw and neck pain as well as headaches. A custom-made mouthguard provided by First Dental Associates can reduce or stop teeth grinding and the wear and tear of your teeth.

We also provide athletic mouthguards. We offer Under Armour and in-house mouthguards to protect your teeth while you participate in sports.

Students get their athletic mouthguard free with a student ID so be sure to bring it with you for your appointment!
