That’s a pretty odd thing to think about, right? Fake nails on your teeth? Fortunately, that’s not exactly what we’re talking about here. Instead, we’re hoping to help you understand why dental veneers just may be the smile solution you’ve been looking for.

If you or your partner have ever gone to the salon for a much-needed manicure and left with a gorgeous looking set of nails, you know just how much of a difference fake nails can make for your entire aesthetic. Dental veneers work the same way for your smile.

At First Dental Associates, we regularly see patients with broken, damaged, or unsightly teeth. In no time at all, we’re able to completely transform their smiles with dental veneers.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, customized, tooth-colored shells made to cover the front of teeth. The shells are bonded to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance by changing the color, size, shape, or length.

Dental veneers are made of porcelain or resin composite materials. At First Dental Associates, we offer porcelain veneers or e.max veneers, which are made of high-end ceramic. Both options are natural-looking ways to restore your smile without sacrificing function. During your consultation at our Reading, MA office we will determine which option is best for you.

Dental veneers are most commonly used to fix:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Teeth that are worn down
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Misalignment or irregularly shaped teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

Dental Veneers Procedure: What To Expect

To make sure you’re a good candidate for dental veneers, you’ll need to schedule a consultation at our Reading, MA office. During your consultation, one of our friendly and experienced team members will take a closer look at your mouth and discuss your goals with you. If necessary, we may also take an X-ray and impressions. If you’re a good candidate for dental veneers, we’ll get the process started!

Before we begin, we will discuss comfort options with you to guarantee you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. We can use a local anesthetic to numb the area, as well as additional comfort solutions to help you relax.

Placing The Veneers

To prepare your teeth for the veneers, we will remove about ½ millimeter of enamel from the surface of each tooth. This will accommodate the thickness of the veneers, giving them a more natural look.

We’ll then take an impression of your teeth that is used to create your customized veneers. It can take up to a month for the veneers to be ready, so in the meantime, we can place temporary veneers to protect your natural teeth.

When your customized veneers are ready, we will bring you back to our office. We’ll first check to make sure the size and color of each veneer fit your individual needs and make any adjustments if necessary.

Each tooth is then prepared for the veneers. We will clean, polish, and etch your teeth to ensure the bonding process is effective. A special cement is applied to the veneer, then we place the veneer on your tooth. We’ll check to make sure it’s positioned just right and then use a special light to harden and cure the cement, bonding the veneer to your tooth. The last step is to trim away any excess cement and double check that your bite hasn’t been affected.

We may have you come back for a checkup in a couple weeks to make sure everything is working properly and you’re not experiencing any irritation. Otherwise, you’re free to enjoy your brand new, gorgeous smile!
